Barracuda Bandits: Police statement

7 Days (a Dubai paper), dated 18 May, says they called the Dubai Police and were told that as long as you have a valid UAE liquor licence and a receipt for the goods purchased you are not breaking the law by transporting alcohol home.

  1. But isn't the problem with Sharjah police, not Dubai police?

  2. THat's right, isn't it because Sharjah is dry that the bandits get away with blackmailing people while they are driving through on the way back to DXB.

  3. What the Dubai Police are saying is that if you are a Dubai resident in possession of a valid Dubai alcohol licence and can reasonably prove you are returning home, (as opposed to driving around distributing or delivering alcohol, say), you are doing nothing illegal.
