Satwa: There one day, gone the next

The demolition of Satwa is now underway and the latest estimate is that by the time the project is complete up to 100,000 people will have been evicted. There are some photos here. Its all happening very quickly. The process seems to be that a hoarding fence is constructed around the demolition zone, then the bulldozers and trucks move in immediately and the area is flattened within days. Some of the villas that have been flattened were huge and looked quite modern. Demolition of the compound we live in starts 1st July.

  1. Hi, Carolyn. Thnx for sharing the sad news & pics on Satwa demolition. Please, can u or any reader help me find out when my area of Satwa will go? Rumor on my street says we wont be evicted for 2 or 3 more years yet. I do need early notice 2 find other digs, bcuz I hav 4 kids & am abroad summers. I live between Street 57 (new Satwa Park area) & Safa Road (Khazzan Park area, park now fenced off. We're between the towers on Sh Z Rd (near Shangrila Hotel) and Street 22D (runs btween & parallel to Satwa Rd & Sh Z Rd), just behind where new Union Co-op is being built. Any info/advice greatly appreciated!

  2. Its such a worry isn't it? I'll try to find out for you...or maybe one of our other Satwa readers knows. You could approach the Dubai Engineer's Office as they have all the information - but whether they'll share it is another question unfortunately.

  3. ..See, when we rented a flat (secondary), it was told that no problem for minimum one year, but we have to vacate by next month. Thing is that the authority won;t renew the expired contracts and u can be sure you will get time till the end of your present contract.
